Amidst claims by some aspirants in All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) that they have the support of Governor Willie Obiano, a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has warned that there will be no automatic ticket for any aspirant in the party.
Speaking when a House of Assembly aspirant for Onitsha North 1 State Constituency, Brother Romanus Eze, paid him a courtesy call, Ezeonwuka who is the Ogilisigbo said the party’s primary must follow due process.
He said some aspirants were claiming that they have the support of the Governor Obiano but it is not true, adding that anybody who wants ticket in APGA must go through due process of participating in the party primary elevations.
He noted that some members of the State House of Assembly have held the Governor hostage to give them ticket to either return to the House of Assembly or move to the House of Representatives as a compensation for supporting him.
He however, said that this cannot be true since Governor Obiano was not owing any member of the House, rather they owed the Governor who spent enormous amount of money to deliver them in 2015 adding that some members of the House tacitly worked with All Progressives Congress (APC) during the November 2017 Governorship election in the State when they thought Tony Nwoye would win.
“They had threatened to impeach the Governor on two occasions. They had also threatened to impeach the Speaker because they alleged she was looking down on them. They had insisted that the Governor buy for each of them Land cruiser Jeep. Now they collect N25m each member for every bill they pass. There is no automatic ticket for anybody. There must be free and fair primaries” he addef
He said given Eze’s antecedents as a grassroot promoter of APGA he has a chance of winning the party ticket, assuring that he would ensure that there will be free and fair primaries that will throw up credible people like him.
The House of Assembly aspirant
who is a one time leader Onitsha North Legislative House, said he came to inform the Ogilisigbo being a member of “Beyond the Plane”, a radio philosophical programme he is sponsoring at the State Radio Station.
