Protocol
I am delighted to welcome everyone to this event. Ndi Anambra, today is a special day for workers all over the world. It is the only day set aside to celebrate workers and re-affirm the belief that there is dignity in labour. It is the day when workers at all levels are fondly remembered and thought of by the society. And finally, it is a day that we emphasize in unmistakable terms, the philosophy of hard work as a pre-condition for human progress and the advancement of the society. It is a great day indeed!
Ndi Anambra, over the past five years, my administration has enjoyed perfect relations with the organized Labour. We have worked in absolute harmony with Labour to ensure that Anambra’s steady and assured steps to progress are not derailed by Labour issues.
For example, all the demands tabled before the Special Committee on Labour Issues headed by my Deputy, Nkem Okeke have been approved in principle. I have also formally declared the intention of my administration to pay the newly approved minimum wage in Anambra State. And I will begin the implementation once the guidelines for the payment of the minimum wage are released by the Federal Government. Umunnem, Anambra will be one of the first few states to pay the new national minimum wage!
Ndi Anambra, permit me to mention that my administration has been fair to Anambra workers. We have never failed to pay salaries, come rain come shine. We have cleared outstanding pensions that had accumulated for over 25 years, from the inception of our state. We have continued to give out bags of rice to workers to give everyone a sense of belonging during Christmas seasons. The Mass Transit buses we provided have made life more bearable to our workers. And in the middle of all these, we are carrying out the renovation of our secretariat to give it a proper facelift.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are doing all these things because we value you. We believe in you. And we want the very best for Anambra State!
Ndi Anambra, we shall do more. It is on this note that I wish you all a happy celebration.
Dalunu
Chief Willie Obiano
Governor, Anambra State.
Governor Obiano is known for keeping to promises made. He will no doubt implement the minimum wage standard salary to Anambra workers. He has been very fair to the workers. He pays attention to their welfare. Workers receive alert every 24th of the month and he had kept that faith for the past five years. Methinks, his administration of Anambra state under APGA is quite commendable.
