The Honorable Commissioner For Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, has described Child Labour as evil and a deadly scourge.
Lady Mezue, made this revelations today, 12th June 2018, during a road show organized by the Steering Committee On Child Labour, in commemoration of this year World Child Labour Day, With the Theme “Generation: Safe And Healthy” The Honorable Commissioner who joined the march to sensitise the public on ills and dangers of child labour, called on all and sundry to join hands to eradicate the ill from our society.
According to the Honorable Commissioner, the era of allowing our children to be roaming the streets hawking all sort of items while their mates are in school is over and belongs to the past, she therefore warned that, henceforth, Children who roam the markets and streets during school hours will be picked up and parents arrested, subsequently will be made to face the law. She however appeal to parents to send their wards to school alongside their own children, remaking that with good education the children stand a better chance to surviving in the society.
While the roadshow progressed, the Honorable Commissioner, personally intervened to rescue some children hawking Goods at Eke Awka, Lady Mezue, quizzed the children to Assertain the reasons why they are not in school during school hours, she took a step further to call the parents of the children and offered to pay their school fees in other for the kids to return back to school.
She finally appreciate the support extended to the ministry by His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano, the executive Governor of Anambra State, whom she explained has been very helpful and supportive to the ministry.
