Today is the 37th Workers Day Celebration since it was made a National Celebration on May 1, 1981 after it was first declared by Peoples Redemption Party Government of the then Kano State in 1980.
The historical account of the Nigerian Worker hasn’t been that good for our people. It is regrettable that many years after independence, we have still not broken the barriers of freedom of workers in Nigeria’s public and civil service. We are still witnessing situations where workers welfare still posses a challenge to many levels of governments in Nigeria.
I celebrate this special day with you and pray that God will continue to protect the Nigerian workers. For us the leaders, we will not relax. We shall continue to pursue our expectations, as we move up in this ladder of our developmental history towards a Nigeria where a worker would get his pay without yearning for it, where those who have served their fatherland and retired, would get their pensions without protesting for it.
Finally, may the God Almighty continue to protect all of us. May He shield us from the antics of the enemies and grant the leaders the mind to always remember that without the efforts of the Nigerian workers, we would not have been where we are today as a nation.
GOD BLESS THE NIGERIAN WORKERS.
