Breaking News: Anambra Covid19 Index Patient Is Responding to Treatment – Dr. Onyemaechi

The first coronavirus patient in Anambra State is responding very well to treatment. This was made known today, 13th April, 2020 when a member of the State Action Committee on COVID-19 and Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Health/Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi played guest on Ogene 98.3FM morning talk show, Political Mirror.

Dr. Onyemaechi noted that the state did its best to ensure coronavirus didn’t enter Anambra but sadly, ‘ we have one case now’.

‘ When we got the report on Friday night, the well trained team of medical personnel quickly established contact with the index patient. He is currently in one of our protective care centres. As we speak, the managing team are well trained, in high spirit and are doing a great job. The patient is coorporating with the management team. He is giving us every information we require for effective contact tracing which has been on for three(3) days now’.

Asked about name of hospitals or hotels the patient went to before the isolation, the ES informed the anchor that he would like to draw attention of the public to the publication made by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C.Don Adinuba. He noted that the oath of confidentiality which every Medical Doctor took cannot be broken.

Continuing, he said; ” The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, State Governors and Atiku’s son all declared their status by themselves, out of their own volition. To that extent, nobody has the right to divulge personal information of a patient to the public without the patient sanctioning it”.

Furthermore, he quizzed rather rhetorically why people would say that the index case entered Anambra during the boundary closure?. Dr. Simeon highlighted that the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano made it clear during his special broadcast on Saturday, 11th April that the patient returned to Anambra from Lagos on 28th while the boundaries were closed to vehicular and human traffics on 30th March.

Responding to question on the lock down, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi pointed out that Governor Obiano in the best interest of the citizens shut the sources of income of the state through stopping revenue windows collectable from motor vehicles and tricycles for 2 months as well as tax refund for persons who paid taxes last year. These measure he said are for the betterment of our people and called on ndi Anambra to support the government in the fight against the spread of the virus by obeying state directives and stay in their homes.

He concluded by appealing to ndi Anambra to see the measures as temporary sacrifice in the greater interest of the State in no distant time.
