The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano on Friday commissioned what could probably pass for the most technologically advanced hospital in the South East of Nigeria.
The hospital known as the Immaculate Heart Multi-specialty Hospital, Aguleri, is a 100-bed top-of-the-range medical institution that was designed to offer medical services covering cardiology, accident and emergency, ante-natal care, obstetrics and gynaecology, Ear-Nose-and-Throat, physiotherapy, paediatrics, internal medicine, dental clinics, general surgery, laboratory services, ultrasound services, x-ray services, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and ambulance and mortuary services among others.
Commissioning the hospital, governor Obiano explained that it was built in fulfillment of his vision to make Anambra “the state with the highest health status in Nigeria with unfettered access to healthcare delivery and zero near zero disease burden.”
Noting that the opening of the new hospital marks a new vista in his administration’s quest for excellence, governor Obiano declared “with this hospital, we shouldn’t bother to go abroad for treatment because all the things you will get abroad, you will get even more here.”
The governor further revealed that a silent revolution was afoot in the healthcare sector in the state, pointing out that Onitsha General Hospital had undergone 95 percent renovation while those of Enugwu-Ukwu and Ekwulobia were at 60 percent and 45 percent completion stages respectively.
Observing that his administration had made steady progress in the health sector, governor Obiano ]further said, “the first serious thing we did was registering the Primary Healthcare Agency. After that registration, we have been recognized by both the Federal Government, the World Bank and others. The second is the Anambra Health Insurance Scheme.”

Offering more insight into the uniqueness of the hospital, the Managing Director of Grafil Nigeria Limited, a specialist in hospital equipment supplies explained that Immaculate Heart Hospital is equipped with 3D and 4D ultrasound unit that can generate accurate information on the state of health of every organ in the human body and a Digitizer in the X-Ray Unit that can convert conventional X-Ray images into digital signals that can be transmitted to handheld devices to be accessed anywhere they are needed.
A total of 130 health workers have been employed by the hospital.
