It was not a good one for the illegal IGR Agents who met their Waterloo when they wanted to forcefully extort money off a Keke Tricycle operator around the popular Ochanja market area, Onitsha.
The melee saw a few sustain varying degree of injuries and the “extortionists” bolted away.
Earlier today, some Keke tricycle riders staged a protest in and around Onitsha city.
Consequently, the Chief Security Officer of the State, Mr. Chinedu Aniagbaso met with the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Uchenna Okafor Wiper and agreed to meet with the Keke riders as a group.
Following their discussion, Hon. Okafor met with the riders at St. Joseph’s Primary School, Odoakpu Onitsha earlier today and addressed their grievances.
He said ” all the paraded receipts are fake and according to the directives of Governor Willie Obiano, all levies are relaxed till June this year.”
Speaking further, Mr. Okafor said, “as you are aware, we’ve started arresting the hoodlums that parade as IGR Agents and they shall face the full wrought of the law. I’ve equally visited the wounded Keke rider at the hospital who was injured yesterday and I can assure you he is recuperating”.
The State Government’s resolve to chase away the illegal IGR Agents from the streets of Anambra is total. A new Anambra is here.
