BREAKING: POLICE BRUTALITY, NBA Onitsha Branch Hails Court Judgment.

It was victory song as a High Court sitting in Onitsha Judicial Division, presided over by Hon. Justice Theophine U. Oguji yesterday, Monday, April 27, 2020, delivered judgment in a Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement suit, filed by Ogbonnaya Jacob Obasi against Emeka Eboh & 4 others, in suit no. O/ Misc.312 /2019.

The High court No. 2 in its erudite judgement, granted all the reliefs, save for one, sought by the Applicant O.J, which are as follows:

  1. Personal written apology to O.J Obasi by the Respondents
  2. Public apology to O.J. Obasi, to be published in Daily Vanguard Newspaper.
  3. N25m damages, jointly and severally, for assaulting the Applicant, a breach of the Applicants’ fundamental rights,

Recall that the incident that led to this suit occurred in October 2019, during the 16th Ofala festival of HRM OBI Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi), when officers and men of the Nigerian police attached to the Onitsha Area Command brutalised O.J Obasi, an Onitsha based lawyer, along Awka Road Onitsha, in Anambra State.

It is on record that yesterday, the Respondents, Messrs:

  4. Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, and
